Blades 3-1 Chengdu - match report
United found their cutting edge after the interval to run out 3-1 winners over the Chengdu Blades at Sheffield FC on Wednesday night.
The visitors included Li Tie in their ranks but United made the better start and Law was soon onto Hendrie's cross but his far post header was too straight and didn't trouble Fu Bin.
And the goalkeeper was just a spectator afterwards from a set-piece when again Hendrie put the ball in, Ehiogu headed across goal and Lowton couldn't quite get on the end of it with the goalkeeper again unsure
The International veteran was then relieved to see Law's brilliant centre curl past him just in front of Robertson and defender Stewart who were both competing to get the touch.
Tie at last set up the visitor's first real attempt but Zhang Chaosong couldn't find the balance needed and blazed wide.
Chengdu had been largely second best but took a surprise lead in the 29th minute, WANG SONG converting from close range with an effort that bobbled into the net.
It certainly inspired his team who proceeded to play with more authority to go into the break with the lead, and hopes of pulling off a win that would delight their party.
Xia Qixi came within a whisker of adding a second but his thunderous volley flashed inches wide, the referee failing to spot a faint touch on the way that would have at least brought a corner-kick.
United levelled after 53 minutes, Montgomery squaring a pass to HENDRIE who cut in and let fly with a dipping right-footer that completely bamboozled substitute keeper Lan Yi.
The Blades were now on top again, Lowton and Walker both pushed up and saw efforts go close as United subbed and switched to 4-5-1.
With twenty minutes left LAW smashed home a spectacular, angled looping volley from the right, and added his second in the 81st minute, reacting quickly and finishing clinically again when Tahar's first shot was deflected.
The result was secured but there was still time for Tahar to be denied by the goalkeeper and Jiang Xiaoyu to provide the most exciting dribble of the match and see his shot well blocked by Annerson.
United: Annerson; Walker, Lowton, Ehiogu, K Quinn; Law, Montgomery, Wedgbury, Hendrie; Robertson (Black 86), Adams (Tahar 70).
Unused: Chanot, Ho Lee.
