A debut goal from 15-year-old Jack Adams crowned United's Pontin's League victory over neighbours Rotherham on Wednesday evening.

With Kevin Blackwell watching on at Worksop, Adams was rewarded for his hard-working display with an injury-time goal. The victory, in United's penultimate game, also keeps feint Eastern Section title hopes alive.

The Blades were forced to name a weakened side for the clash with the Millers as no less than six players were hit by an illness bug. Coach Ron Reid was also under the weather but watched from the sidelines as Rotherham's O'Grady forced an early save from Ho Lee.

That chance, however, was one of very few in the first half as both midfields battled for possession. Around the half hour mark Law stung the palms of goalkeeper Cann with a shot from the right.

United began the second half with more purpose and raised the tempo, which caused problems for Rotherham. Quinn hit a bobbling shot that was pushed away before the Blades took the lead on 69 minutes.

An excellent move on the right saw Law deliver a pin-point cross for ROBERTSON, who stole a yard on marker Hemsley before nudging the ball beyond Cann's right hand.

It was no less than United deserved for the second half display and a second almost followed on 73 minutes. Walker got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Law to blast over from 10 yards.

Law poked another effort wide and, on 88 minutes, Adams charged down a Cann clearance but the ball ran away from the young striker.

However, another chance in injury-time was just around the corner. ADAMS found himself in the clear from a hopeful forward ball and ignored an option to pass before coolly slotting past Rotherham's goalkeeper. A number of somersaults in his celebration confirmed that the young striker was overjoyed.

Coach Reid said afterwards: "Jack worked his socks off and I'm delighted he got a goal. He's only played a couple of games for the under 18s but has got a couple of goals.

"I'm pleased with the whole team. We worked hard, closed Rotherham down and forced errors. In the second half we stepped up a gear and the win was thoroughly deserved."
