Grimsby 0-2 Reserves - match report
Goals from on-loan Inter Milan striker, Goran Slavkovski, and substitute, Jordan Robertson, were enough for the Blades against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park on Monday afternoon.
The Blades were dominant throughout and a thoroughly professional performance handed the visitors all three points to keep the pressure on the leaders in the Pontin's Holiday League.
United were on top from the start but, despite having the lion's share of possession, they had to wait until the 25th minute to take the lead.
SLAVKOVSKI finished well after latching onto a Keith Quinn through ball, following a good passing move in the Blades engine room.
The away side continued to press on in search of a second, although the Mariners held on until the break.
The second-half was a more even contest with Chapman, Chanot, Lowton and Walker marshalling the defence excellently and holding off periods of pressure from the hosts.
In the 82nd minute Jordan ROBERTSON held off two defenders before beating the on-coming keeper to seal the win for the Blades, following a pin-point through ball from Chapman.
Coach Ron Reid was a happy man after the game and he also commented on United's U14s team who are currently competing in the Nike Cup in Warwick:
"It was a good, competitive game against Grimsby, and we held the upper hand throughout. Overall it was a very pleasing effort.
"The U14s are currently taking part in a cup competition and they won their first game 1-0 with Rhys Hands scoring the winning goal."
Blades: Ho Lee, Chapman, Walker, Ashmore, Chanot, Lowton, Askham (S-Latef 70), K.Quinn, Slavkovski (Boden 80), Abdi (Robertson 62), Tahar.
