West Brom 3-0 Blades Res - match report
United's Reserves are still without a win in the Pontin's League Cup after a young side were exposed by a powerful West Brom second string at Kidderminster's Aggborough Stadium.
Scott Sellars took charge of the Blades team that included a number of under 18s, whilst at least half of the Baggies team had first team experience.
Furniss made the first save of the night, from a back post header by Martis but West Brom took the lead on 13 minutes when Pole SLUSARSKI played a one-two with Bednar before squeezing a shot under the goalkeeper.
Ashmore headed wide for the Blades, who also a goal disallowed - unfairly in the coach's eyes - when an offside flag was raised as Eagers fired home after 28 minutes.
Slusarski went close before and after the break then Albion extended the lead on 50 minutes. MACDONALD's pace caused problems and he cut inside before firing a 25-yard effort past Furniss.
The third arrived on 73 minutes when Lake-Gaskin provided the cross into the box and SLUSARSKI netted his second with a close-range header.
The Blades battled on and from Donnelly's run, Barnett had to cut out the danger whilst the like of Ashmore and Naughton continued to try to put the home side under pressure.
Coach Sellars commented: "They were a strong side and it was a bit of physical mis-match. I was quite pleased with the approach play but we lacked a bit extra in the final third. It will be a good learning experience for the lads and a physical eye-opener."
