Scottish international Gary arrived at Bramall Lane in July 2007 and signed a three-year deal after Bryan Robson paid Everton £1m for his services.
He began his career with Hearts, making his debut as a 17-year-old and also helping the Club to the Scottish Cup.
He was also named Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year and was a full international before arriving at Everton in October 2000 after Walter Smith paid £1.75m for him.
He made over 150 appearances for the Merseyside club.
