Nothing to lose
Michael Tonge remains confident that the Blades can keep their end of the bargain against Southampton next Sunday, on a weekend that may see United complete a remarkable turnaround under boss Kevin Blackwell.
Tonge knows his side are in need of favours elsewhere, but is well aware that the Blades must do their job at St Mary's first and foremost to get the teams above them twitching:
"When the new manager came in I don't think anybody outside the club envisaged us having a chance at this stage of the season.
"But it was our aim to be in with a shout come the last day of the season and we are looking forward to the Southampton game. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
"The pressure is on everyone to get the necessary result, but we have got into a winning habit and this has taken us from strength to strength in recent months.
"If we do sneak into the play-offs, we are the form team and not many would fancy facing Sheffield United. This division brings about plenty of surprises, so who knows."
