Boss on Hendrie return
Lee Hendrie will be expected to wipe the slate clean and give his all for Sheffield United next season.
The midfielder who ended the season on loan at ultimately doomed Leicester City after enduring an awkward time at the Lane is still contracted to the Blades. And manager Kevin Blackwell insists that Hendrie must be given a chance to resurrect his career:
"Every player under contract here will be expected to turn up in July and work his socks off, and that is true of Lee as well.
"I'm aware of the comments he made at the time about wanting to play for Leicester, but he will do everything that is required of him at this Club."
Bryan Robson originally signed the former Aston Villa midfielder but he was loaned out virtually as soon as Blackwell moved in:
"I only had him for about two or three days but he had an opportunity that we all felt was right which he took. Sometimes the profile of a player doesn't match a struggling team and it could be that as we now have a winning one Lee could flourish here next season.
"Certainly I am prepared to accept that water has now gone under the bridge as far as Lee and United are concerned, and it is time to start again for everybody's benefit."
The United chief is also looking forward to seeing the likes of Danny Webber and Jordan Robertson playing competitively, and will re-iterate his demands of everyone in the squad:
"We will ask all the lads if they are prepared to do everything in their power to get Sheffield United back into the Premiership.
"If that means extra training, more video analysis or whatever, then that is what must be done. If a player is not prepared to do that then he will not fit the mould of being a Sheffield United player."
