Kevin Blackwell paused for a moment at Friday's press conference to reflect on a busy week, and admitted he had been impressed by the talent bubbling under at the Lane.

Having got back in time to deal with transfer deadline day, the boss looked back at the benefits of the midweek game in Budapest:

"I've not had a minute to breathe really, what with the trip away, meetings, transfer talks and now preparation for Preston.

"The visit to Budapest was really worthwhile and it is pleasing to see just how much this club has progressed since I was last here.

"Ferencvaros is a top club in its own right, and that was demonstrated by the way our youngsters acquitted themselves against them.

"They were competitive - in front of their vociferous fans as well - and one or two showed that they are not far away from the first team picture."
