Medal triumph
United's Legends of the Lane is now the home of another impressive artefact from the club's history.
The Blades have bought a FA Cup winners' medal from the 1899 final - the first of four the club have won. The medal was presented to Jack Almond, who scored the third goal in the 4-1 success over Derby County.
United's John Garrett travelled to an auction house in the seaside resort of Scarborough in pursuit of the Almond's medal.
John explains: "The medal had been gifted to its owner by his late father, who had in turn received it from an uncle who had, prior to the Second World War, been a director of Grimsby Town Football Club.
"Unfortunately, we have no clear idea how it ended up in his possession, and it seems that the family for many years didn't actually know what the medal actually was. The most sought after prize in English football anonymously hung on a chain around someone's neck!
"Upon passing to his son, it was mounted in a frame with a picture of the winning team. His decision to sell enabled us to piece another part of our past back together."
Pictured with the medal is Andy Arrand (left), of Terra Firma Tiles, and Don Dickinson of Dendale Ltd. Both are committed patrons of the Legends of the Lane project.
United's John Garrett said: "Our patrons, including Andy and Don, have supported the growth of United's collection of memorabilia from our illustrious past, not only providing funds but also business advice and expertise.
"Both Andy and Don have also independently and privately purchased items on our behalf as well as jointly. The Patrons ensure that our superb collection is protected and kept together, preserving our history for future generations."
