Andy is a former Blades goalkeeper, he made 25 appearances for the Club in the 1980s. He also represented York City, Bristol City, Lincoln City and Chesterfield as he clocked up over 200 Football League starts before moving into specialist coaching and he now works on a daily basis with United's last line of defence.

He has been with the Club throughout Paddy Kenny's rise and worked from time to time with Phil Jagielka on the training ground as the versatile player was used as an emergency back-up in the reign of Neil Warnock, who regularly resisted the urge to name a goalkeeper on the substitute's bench.
