Academy 4-2 Nottingham Forest
United's U18s got their second win in three games with am impressive home success against Nottingham Forest at Shirecliffe on Saturday.
Goals from Scott Boden, Jack Adams, Jordan Eagers and Grant Roberts saw the Blades gain revenge on Forest after losing 3-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
In a bright opening it was BODEN who fired the hosts in front from a tight angle, after good work from Walker and Tahar.
In the 23rd minute United doubled their advantage, debutant ADAMS, promoted from the under 16s, cut in from the right, beat his marker and with the aid of a deflection his shot gave the Forest goalkeeper no chance.
Three minutes before the break the visitors pulled one back. Despite the home side appealing for a foul in the build-up, the referee waved play on and a Forest striker beat Furniss comfortably from close-range.
The second half followed a similar pattern and in the 61st minute EAGERS restored United's two-goal cushion with a spectacular strike from 25 yards out.
Six minutes later it was 4-1, ROBERTS converted from inside the area after an excellent passing move involving Boden, Wedgbury and Eagers.
The visitors scored a consolation goal in the 85th minute. Following a poor goal-kick a Forest striker powered through and beat Furniss from just inside the area.
Coach Ron Reid was delighted with the result and performance, as United's youngsters made light work of the difficult conditions:
"It was an excellent all round effort and we were solid throughout the team from start to finish. We produced some excellent football and to score four goals in testing conditions was very pleasing for everyone."
