Academy 2-1 Bolton - match report
The Blades U18s produced a fine display to record an impressive 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Shirecliffe on Saturday.
United's youngsters bounced back from their disappointing defeat against Everton last week, by producing a more complete performance against the Trotters.
The home side began to exert their dominance early on and Sean Gordon came close after excellent some build-up play.
The same man forced the visiting keeping into action moments later, before the Blades took a deserved lead in the 35th minute.
YATES picked the ball up out wide, beat his man and fired in a powerful shot which, with the aid of a deflection, gave the keeper no chance.
Adam Chapman then stung the goalkeepers' palms with a blistering free-kick, and he had another half-chance moments later.
United started the second-half from where they had left off in the first and Yates continued to look dangerous out on the left.
The mounting pressure paid off in the 75th minute when BODEN finished, following Gordon's shot from Yates's through ball.
In the dying stages the visitors pulled one back, with a header at the back post from a precise cross. Despite this setback the Blades dug deep to hold on, for an important victory.
Coach Scott Sellars was delighted with the result and the professionalism shown by his players.
He said, "It was a very professional performance, with prolonged periods of possession and some excellent teamwork.
"There were some very good individual performances including, Adam Yates and Kyle Walker, who were both outstanding."
