A stunning Adam Chapman free-kick saw the Blades U18s side notch a narrow victory at MK Dons on Saturday.

Chapman's sweet 26th-minute strike was enough to separate the two teams in United's second match of their FA Premier Academy League 2007-08 campaign.

MK Dons proved to be tough opponents for United as the home side tested Blades shot-stopper Ho Lee on several occasions.

United enjoyed a bright opening to the match and Gordon had an early chance when he latched on to Askham's teasing right-wing cross but his snap-shot drew a great save from the Dons 'keeper.

The Blades broke the deadlock midway through the first-half when the visitors were awarded a free-kick around 25 yards from goal. CHAPMAN stepped up and struck a superb drive into the top left-hand corner of the net.

United stepped up a gear and Askham's deft flick saw Gordon break free but his attempted lob was claimed by the Dons 'keeper on his tip toes.

Dons midfielder Kelly headed against the upright from close range just after the hour-mark before the same player curled an effort inches beyond Ho Lee's post as the home side pressed for an equaliser.

Despite earning a victory, Coach Scott Sellars was displeased with United's overall performance.

He said: "It wasn't a great performance as we were sloppy with the ball at times. It was pleasing to keep a clean sheet, but we have to work on our passing."

It has been a solid start to the new term for the Blades' youngsters as they drew 3-3 with West Bromwich Albion at Shirecliffe on the opening day of the season.
